Bliss Launch New Resuscitation DVD

General • 20th November 2009

Special care baby charity Bliss for babies born 'too soon, too small and too sick', have released a DVD to train parents of premature babies in infant resuscitation.

Returning home with a premature infant can be an exciting and yet anxious time, with parents forced to cope with the with the demanding responsibility of caring for their often very ill children.  Aware of this, Bliss have funded the production of an infant resuscitation DVD made in conjunction with NHS Ayrshire and Arran.

This innovative resource takes parents and carers through a step by step guide of what to do in the event that their child stops breathing.  This not only helps to equip parents with potentially life saving skills, but also builds their confidence when returning home from hospital.

Parents with children in neonatal care will firstly be introduced to this valuable educational DVD as part of the discharge process before taking a free copy home with them as a constant reference.

Jane Abbott of Bliss said, “We are thrilled to be able to offer this DVD to units and parents. It can be daunting to leave the security of the unit with your baby after weeks or even months and we hope this DVD will be a useful resource to help parents to provide the best support to their sick or premature baby.”

This is just another way in which Bliss continues to support families with premature babies and make a real impact on their quality of life.
