First Aid Kits

 

1.      Guidance for first aid kit contents for work environments are set out by the Heath and Safety Executive. There is no statutory list and your requirements should be set by a risk assessment, they do however publish this guidance on their web site.

  1.  
    • 20 individually wrapped sterile plasters (assorted sizes), appropriate to the type

of work (you can provide hypoallergenic plasters, if necessary);

    • two sterile eye pads;
    • four individually wrapped triangular bandages, preferably sterile;
    • six safety pins;
    • two large, individually wrapped, sterile, unmedicated wound dressings;
    • six medium-sized, individually wrapped, sterile, unmedicated wound dressings;
    • a pair of disposable gloves
  2. If the kit is to be used in a food preparation or catering environment you should provide blue detectable plasters.
  3. It is best to locate your kit or kits in easily accessible areas and then retain some back up stock in order to replenish items as they are used.
